What is a domain name ?
A domain name is your unique id on the internet. It is your personal address, which people from
all around the world can use to find your web site. It can be your company name such as,
www.mycompany.com, or it could be a descriptive name like, www.nightclubzone.com,
It can also be a catchy name, ie. www.bestdeals.com, For an individual the best name
would be www.yourname.com, imagine how easy it would be for people to remember your
web site and e-mail address (ie. me@myname.com). If they can remember your name,
they can contact you. For more advice, see our
Choosing a domain name page.
|
Why should I register my domain name now ?
Every domain name is unique. There must be quite a few people out there, who share their names
with you. But there is only one john.com , one johnsmith.com
, and one john-smith.com , this is why, registering a good domain
name for you or your business as quickly as possible can be very important. You must make
sure, you are the only john Smith with an e-mail address,
me@johnsmith.com. Once you register this domain, no
other john Smith in the world can use your domain name.
|
How long can I register a domain name for ?
Domain names can now be registered from 2 to 10 years. The registration
can be renewed automatically by you, before it expires. We will send you reminder e-mails before
your domain(s) are due to expire.
|
How long does it take to register my domain name ?
At acelogic.com , we register domain names online, directly with the appropriate
registrars. Your domain name will be secured for you on the same day, we receive your order and payment,
and normally fully completed within 48 hours. However, there is no guarantee that the domains
will be yours until the registration process is fully completed and your name shows up on the
WHOIS search details. If somebody else has applied for the same domain, even seconds
earlier, they will get your domain.
|
What if someone else has the domain name I want ?
If it is your company trademark then you MAY be able to reclaim the domain name, but this
happens very rarely. Domains are registered on a first come, first served basis, and
unless you can prove that the other person has registered the domain name in order to charge
you for it, or has no legal right to it, then there really isn't anything you
can do.
|
How can I tell if my registration was successful ?
The worldwide domain name database is updated daily. Successful registrations will be added
to the new registrations list on the same day, they were submitted. In the interim your domain
name will still appear as available for up to 48 hours. Don't panic, any attempts to register
it by another party will fail unless they have submitted a registration request before you.
|
When can I start using my domain name for email or a web-site ?
Although your domain name appear as registered on the worldwide domain name database within
48 hours, you cannot yet send or receive email using that domain name nor begin uploading data
to a website. The Internet consists of a vast number of networks, all of which feed into each
other. A process called 'propagation' spreads new information about domain names across the
net as each constituent network updates its records. This process is performed by all major ISPs
at different times. Thus it may take up to five days between registering your domain name
and it becoming universally accessible. You cannot use your new name for email or a web-site
until propagation is complete.
|
Who owns my domain name ?
We register your domains in your name and address. You are the legal owner of all domains registered by
acelogic.com . We act as your hosting company and host your domains on your behalf.
The person or organisation named in the application is called the Registrant; this name appears
at the top of the results page of any 'WhoIs' lookup. The Administrative, Billing and Technical
contacts have our details, but this confers no right of ownership on us.
|
What if I made a mistake in the domain name ?
Your domain name registration orders are processed automatically to ensure they are registered
in the fastest time possible. Once you have submitted your order, the domain name requested
is reserved for registration with the appropiate registrar within minutes.
We can NOT make any modifications to your domain name after you have pressed the
order button on our secure order form.
|
Do I get an official acknowledgement of my registration ?
The principal acknowledgement of your registration is your listing on the 'WhoIs' database,
which you can print out and store. We will also send you an invoice listing all the names purchased.
When you buy UK domain names (ending with .uk), you will receive a formal certificate directly from
Nominet, the UK domain names authority, within 3 to 6 months.
